Recently I had a power failure last 3 seconds past the life of my UPS and now my most crucial server will no longer POST. Naturally.
Luckily I had all data backed up to another server (which still powers on) but what if this wasn't the case? Is the data gone forever?
Of course not. It's just a little more complicated since the data consisted of a RAID 5 with 3 SATA drives and LVM on top of that. How'd I get my data back? A little help from KNOPPIX, mdadm, modprobe, …
Wow ... long time no post.
Since the site got a facelift, I've decided to try and be more proactive about making posts, adding projects to the Projects space, etc. (Oddly enough I recall saying this to myself a few other times before). Who knows, maybe this time will be different now that I've retired Drupal and Gallery for good, and am sticking to Confluene for content and http://gallery.me.com/nickragusa for pictures.

ok. so what about those who don't have a USB of Firewire disk lying around? granted, …
over thanksgiving break, i was lucky enough to take a trip to the future home of the new york yankees. mr permahos (better known as amanda's papa) is a project manager for the new stadium and invited mr. rackover (amanda's dad), booty, and myself to take a tour with him around the construction site. …
i've posted a few more photos of the office. still plenty more to come.
Ok, so since I'm a total nerd, I have to show support for my fellow nerdians. I've been using Linux for only about 5 years, but they were 5 years of non-stop usage. After touching just about every distro available (Gentoo, Ubuntu, Slackware, Debian, CentOS, RHEL) I must say, Ubuntu has finally done something right. Community support rocks, and it's the closest thing to 'it just works'. Granted, I'm glad I had my Linux career start with Slackware, and then on to Gentoo, …
it's not too difficult to justify the title. is he not the most adorable baby you've ever seen?
